Erykah Badu announces rare Australian tour with first Melbourne show in 12 years

Erykah Badu Melbourne
words by Frankie Anderson-Byrne

Erykah Badu brings Walk Between Worlds tour to Melbourne, Byron Bay and Sydney in April.

Melbourne, it’s happening. Erykah Badu is returning to Australia in April 2026 for her first tour in 12 years, with shows scheduled for Melbourne, Byron Bay and Sydney.

Five-time Grammy winner and neo-soul pioneer Erykah Badu will hit Margaret Court Arena on 1 April before appearing at Byron Bay Bluesfest on 3 April and wrapping at Sydney’s TikTok Entertainment Centre on 4 April. Walk Between Worlds marks a rare chance to see one of contemporary music’s most influential voices back on Australian stages after more than a decade away.

Badu emerged in the 1990s alongside D’Angelo and Maxwell, reshaping the sound of modern Black music through albums like Baduizm, Mama’s Gun and New Amerikah. Blending soul, jazz, funk and hip hop with spiritual and political themes, she’s spent nearly four decades pushing creative boundaries while remaining one of the most vital artists in R&B and soul.

Known for deeply intuitive and improvisational live performances, Badu’s shows are shaped by the moment, the audience and the energy in the room. No two performances are ever the same, with each set moving fluidly between catalogue deep cuts, new material, spoken word and spontaneous musical exploration. Her approach to live performance has always been about letting songs evolve organically on stage rather than recreating album versions note for note.

Badu hasn’t slowed down creatively. Recent years have seen her release Grammy-winning collaborations like 3:AM with Robert Glasper and feature on tracks with artists including The Alchemist, keeping her firmly embedded in contemporary soul, jazz and hip hop. She continues to debut new material through live shows, treating performance as a space for creation rather than just presentation.

Walk Between Worlds reflects how Badu operates as an artist; between past and future, tradition and experimentation, structured songs and pure improvisation. It’s not a nostalgia tour or a reinvention but a continuation of an artist who’s never stopped evolving.

Presale tickets go live on Friday, 24 January at 11am AEDT, with general sale starting Tuesday, 27 January at 11am AEDT. Given the 12-year gap since her last Australian visit and her reputation for unmissable live shows, these tickets won’t stick around.

Supported by Double J and PBS, the tour offers a rare opportunity to experience an artist who remains as creatively engaged and culturally significant now as she was when Baduizm dropped in 1997.
