Elephant Sessions are set to bring Highland heat to the Brunswick Ballroom

In a fusion of traditional Scottish fire and modern electronica that would make even the most steadfast wallflower's feet twitch, Elephant Sessions are set to storm Australian shores this summer with their award-winning sonic cocktail.

Fresh from claiming the BBC Scotland Trad Album of the Year for their latest release For the Night– which crashed into the UK charts at number three – Highland quartet Elephant Sessions will unleash their distinctive blend of indie-folk across Australian venues this December and January.

Since their formation in 2012, the band has evolved from traditional Scottish roots into something altogether more explosive. Euan Smillie’s fiddle dances with Alasdair Taylor’s mandolin while Calum MacQuarrie’s bass and Greg Barry’s drums and samples create a foundation that’s more nightclub than ceilidh.

For the Night represents another bold step in their genre-bending journey, earning plaudits from unexpected quarters. Alt-J count themselves among the converted, while both BBC Radio 2 and 6 have championed their cause.

It’s a far cry from their humble beginnings in the Scottish Highlands, but the band’s meteoric rise – including a coveted Live Act of the Year award at the 2018 BBC Scots Trad Music Awards – speaks to their universal appeal.

Australian audiences are already well-acquainted with their high-octane live shows from appearances at Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Womad. Now, they’re promising to debut fresh material alongside tracks from their award-winning album.

Since their 2014 debut The Elusive Highland Beauty, the band has consistently pushed boundaries, earning acclaim from both Rolling Stone and traditional folk publications. Their ability to bridge these worlds has seen them grace stages from Glastonbury to Byron Bay, becoming unlikely heroes of the festival circuit.

As they prepare to return Down Under, one thing’s certain – these sessions are anything but elephantine in pace. Expect dance floors to quake under the weight of their highland charge.
