Ecca Vandal drops a video tribute to ’90s hip hop for ‘Your Orbit’ ft. Sampa The Great

When two of Australia’s premier musicians team up to gift us with a music video inspired by 90s hip hop and centred around female empowerment, you sit your ass down and experience the beauty. Hence, this is exactly what you should be doing right now; Ecca Vandal just dropped the video for ‘Your Orbit’, featuring Sampa The Great – who features on the track itself – and let me tell you; clout levels are off the charts, my dudes.

Both Ecca and Sampa shine on the track; DIY Mag praised the “dreamy cut”, and Hysteria labelled it “a slick ‘n’ swervy tribute to the golden age of hip hop.” The new visual component adds a whole new dimension of female empowerment and confidence. The artists are shown fronting a squad of diverse young women having a boog to the track, getting around each other, and just generally emanating the vibes of any girl gang headed to a club/gig/KFC on a Saturday night.

The video is shot around various Sydney landmarks, including the Sirius Building – a housing development ironically now standing amongst some of Sydney’s prime real estate – and Martin Place – a corporate tower. As with anything Ecca does, the glamorous and aesthetically-pleasing video is inherently political, this time focusing on wealth distribution and a woman’s place in a bustling, economically diverse city. Overall, the video just reinforces Ecca and Sampa’s statuses as big names out to shake things up in both the Aussie and international industry.

Ecca Vandal has had a huge 12 months; from releasing her debut album – which received widespread critical acclaim and became #9 Rolling Stone Aussie Album of 2017 – to performing all dates of The Falls Music and Arts Festival. She’s poised to hit up stages all across the UK from May to August, supporting Incubus as well as Pool House Party amongst others.
