Handsome Tours present Cigarettes After Sex for their long-awaited Australian return next March.

Amid the excitement for their new album X’s, Cigarettes After Sex have announced a string of three shows to be played in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane respectively next year.

The Texans will bring their charmingly liminal sound to Australian shores, poised to dazzle Rod Laver Arena on March 12, ICC Sydney Theatre on the 14, and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on the 17.

They’ll be flying in on the momentum from the release of their new lead single Tejano Blue, in which they channel ’80s icon Selena in an ode to lead singer-songwriter Greg Gonzalez’s youth.

“The record feels brutal,” says Gonzalez. “I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn’t scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it—in a good way. I don’t have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget.”

The band haven’t graced Australian venues since the summer of ’17/’18, but X’s is poised to be as raw as ever, with Gonzalez promising the emotional sucker-punch that fans have attributed to the band for years. The album in its entirety is due for release on July 12, via Partisan Records.

With billions of streams and a string of sold-out shows behind them, the band has bloomed in popularity since their 2008 debut thanks to their signature cashmere-soft love songs. They’re set to deliver an intimate night of music when they touch down in 2025.

Tickets will be released via pre-sale on Thursday, the 7th of March at 10am local time, with general on-sale following closely on Friday the 8th of March, 10am.
