Perth hip-hop legend Drapht has announced a bumper Aussie east coast tour for 'Shadows & Shinings'

Dual ARIA-winner Drapht has established himself as a bona-fide Aussie hip-hop legend with a string of uplifting and impressively consistent releases over the past decade, and now he’s heading on a national Australian tour to celebrate his latest, Shadows & Shinings.

It’s the multi-platinum rapper’s seventh studio album, featuring a lengthy list of collabs with Eli Greeneyes, Hilltop Hoods’ Pressure, Dune Rats, Jeswon from Thundamentals, Complete, Hunter, Layla, and Dazastah among others. Drapht now boasts a 20-year catalogue (how time flies) and he’ll be showcasing all your favourites across the whopping 21-date national tour, covering a whole host of regional and city destinations.

Shadows & Shinings

The new album marks a increasingly reflective stage in Drapht’s career, which we saw from the artist in the string of single releases leading up to the seventh effort. On ‘Hypocrite’, Drapht’s fourth single, we saw an antidote to the rapper’s breakout hit ‘Jimmy Recard’ – in contrast to that song’s flawless protagonist, Drapht documents the many paradoxes and unwitting infringements that characterise his day to day. Even when performing such unflinching self-examination, the now-39-year-old maintains a tone and tempo that’s every bit as carbonated as we’ve come to expect.

“The album cover art is an illustration (drawn by Travis Price) of my childhood home, and the title Shadows and Shinings is a metaphor that represents all of the lightest and darkest times within my life while making it, from the birth of my daughter, to having another relationship break down,” Drapht explained.

“From reflecting on the success of my career in the industry, to the struggles with my mental health that also came with it. The theme originally started out from a line in one of my favourite books – Man’s Search For Meaning, ‘Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.”
