Words by Staff Writer

The cult classic film Donnie Darko will come to life in Melbourne this June, with an immersive Halloween house party experience.

This unique event transforms Melbourne Pavilion into a multi-sensory playground featuring high-tech audiovisuals, live DJs, film sets and characters from the beloved 2001 movie. The experience arrives in Australia after a sold-out London debut, with Melbourne one of thirteen global cities to host the event in 2025.

Actor James Duval, who played Frank the Rabbit in the original film, will make a special appearance at the Melbourne event. “After seeing Cinaesthesia Productions’ setup of the Halloween party for Donnie Darko at the sold-out London UK event, I was just blown away! Beyond all expectations!! What’re you doing on June 6, Melbourne? Maybe I’ll see you at the next one…wearing your stupid man suit!” Duval said.

The director from Cinaesthesia Productions explained the concept: “But this isn’t just a screening…It’s a full-blown, 80s-style interactive house party where fans can live and breathe inside a Donnie Darko spectacle.”

Attendees are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes as they explore multiple themed rooms recreating the film’s atmosphere. The event features themed bars and fully immersive spaces designed to blur the line between reality and fiction, combining music, storytelling and interactivity.

Since its release, the Richard Kelly-directed Donnie Darko has gained a massive global following, with themes of time travel, fate and 80s nostalgia cementing its place in pop culture. This immersive adaptation allows fans to step inside that world in an entirely new way.

VIP packages will be available, offering a personal meet and greet with James Duval in an exclusive backstage area. VIP guests will also gain access to a Halloween-themed private bar, receive limited edition signed merchandise, and get a rare opportunity to see one of the original Frank the Rabbit costumes from the film.

Given the London event’s quick sell-out, fans are encouraged to secure tickets early for this Australian debut, which is positioned as a must-attend event for film lovers, ravers and pop culture enthusiasts.
