The iconic Rod Laver Arena is one of Melbourne’s most loved venues, with over one million people visiting each year.
A centrepiece in Melbourne’s concert scene, it hosts a wide range of entertainment events throughout the year, earning itself an international reputation as one of the busiest and highest-grossing venues globally. It’s also famous for having the first retractable roof in Australia and for hosting some of Australia’s most memorable moments.
Facilitated by consummate performer Justin Timberlake’s ‘in-the-round’ stage mode, the record crowd for Rod Laver Arena is 16,183 for a concert in November 2007.
Underpinned by P!NK’s record-breaking 17-show Funhouse Tour in 2009, Rod Laver Arena was the third highest grossing concert venue in the world behind only Madison Square Garden and O2 Arena.
The multipurpose arena at Melbourne Park celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018 and is embarking on a new era as it unveils a significant transformation. Beginning in February 2016 and staged over four years, the current redevelopment of Rod Laver Arena will deliver enhanced customer experience and ensuring it continues to host the biggest and best shows for generations to come.
Work is now complete on a suite of premium new backstage areas for the famous faces who take to the stage, in addition to an impressive new rigging operation that increases the venue’s capacity from 30 tonnes to 100 tonnes, making it the venue of choice for big acts.
