Pawn & Co. is a venue like no other, combining an operational pawn shop with a 1920’s themed late-night bar.
Everything in the bar is for sale, from the glass you are drinking out of to the bartenders’ bow tie, a vintage golf club set and even a 1940’s taxidermy albino kangaroo. The décor itself is prohibition era chic, with the bar made up of antique pianos and an assortment of vintage furniture, lamps and fittings throughout.
Far from being a bar that relies on the novelty value of its concept, Pawn & Co has a phenomenal list of cocktails and a bar manned by some of the best mixologists in Melbourne who are always happy to suggest exciting new tipples for adventurous patrons. Having opened at the end of 2012, media attention has come in thick and fast including being named one of the world’s 20 best new bars of 2013 in outlets such as The Huffington Post, Daily Beast and Today Show as well as one of 5 dazzling new bars across the globe by Forbes Magazine. This has led to a number of high profile corporations and individuals using the space for events and functions, with the venue able to be hired out exclusively from Monday to Wednesday, and two private areas overlooking iconic Chapel St able to be utilised from Thursday to Sunday while the venue is open to the public.
With its 7am license, Pawn & Co is also a favourite of bar and hospitality folk looking for a late night cocktail and a place to unwind after work alongside late night revellers there for the house music provided by some of Melbourne’s finest purveyors of the genre.
