Dinner at The Lounge

12.jpg

The Modern Australian menu is not that extensive but there seems to be something for every hankering, from nibblies to both light and main meal options. Less decision making, more eating – how it should be.

The chicken parma arrives stretched to the edges of a plate the size of a kiddy pool. Smeared with tomato sauce and gloriously thick cheese it looks hideous in the most tasty way possible. Carefully hidden underneath is a sizable pile of chips adjacent to the token ‘this makes it healthy’ salad. Like an ugly parma baby only a mother could love, this is a meal only a man (or ravenous lady) could appreciate and finish. It was well-cooked, rich in saucy goodness and honest – a working man’s blue collar dinner.

The garage that is The Lounge‘s menu is not just full of V8 utes, as the Alfa Romeo-esque Chicken Special proves. Half the size of the parma, it has roasted potatoes and beans instead of chips and salad but the real ace up its sleeve is its basil sauce. This is rich and creamy and has an unexpected kick that makes you feel happy to be alive. Yeah, it is that good. While not super-cheap, you certainly get your money’s worth and you’ll be happy with your choice if you ever find yourself here.
