It’s been four years in the making but, finally, Digitalism are back with their sophomore album, I Love You, Dude. Who said electro was dead?! As the follow-up record to 2007’s Idealism, the German duo’s brand new LP brings forward some of the old with the new.
The song Stratosphere fittingly opens the record – sending the listeners into the Digitalism stratosphere, allowing them to anticipate what the remainder of the record has to offer.
I Love You, Dude is filled with bangers – after all, that’s what they do best. But among those tracks, we find some gems – songs that incorporate some sort of grunt, such as Circles or the first song released from the record, 2 Hearts. But what’s a good record without a guest appearance or two? Listen to Forest Gump, and although you won’t recognise another familiar voice, be aware that there is another mastermind behind that song. Elusive Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas worked with the duo on the track, even if it was just via email correspondence.
Despite how much I enjoyed this record, I couldn’t help but pick multiple familiarities between this record and their previous work. But that isn’t to undermine this record by any means.
Best Track: Reeperbahn.
If You Like These, You’ll Like This: DOES IT OFFEND YOU, YEAH?, CRYSTAL CASTLES, DAFT PUNK, JUSTICE.
In A Word: Electric.
