Renowned Australian singer/songwriter Dan Sultan is set to headline the Stolen Generations Marker Fundraiser, a benefit which aims to raise money to fund a public art piece and garden in recognition of those effected by the Stolen Generations. The marker will be installed in Fitzroy’s Atherton Gardens, a place of significance to the Indigenous community as many Stolen Generations suvivors united on that site for the first time.
Sultan’s music has reflected on the Stolen Generations through heartfelt tracks such as ‘Kimberly Calling’ and ‘Roslyn’ in the past, his own family bearing the emotional scars of the ordeal.
“While the marker will never take away the trauma and pain that so many people have experienced directly and indirectly, it still symbolises the strength and courage they have shown in their pursuit for justice and inner peace,” says Sultan.
Joining Dan Sultan for the benefit are Ella Hooper, Kira Puru, Clairy Browne, Kutcha Edwards and Uncle Jack Charles, with Brian Nankervis on MC duties. The night will involve both storytelling and song to celebrate the strengths and struggles of the Indigenous community, with all funds raised going to building the marker.
