Dad rock sensations Sin City are playing a free Friday night residency at The Gem

Every Friday in February, New Zealand's favourite cosmic-country, bar-crawling crooners are lighting up The Gem with their soulful rock'n'roll classics, with the help of a few special guests.

Sin City have a handy little backstory.

The founding duo – Jack Beesley and Nick Armstrong from The Cavemen, Auckland’s wild, glue-loving rock favourites – found themselves holed up in a dank room in the Spanish city of Alicante, where they delved into their love of outlaw country and wrote the tracks that have made them quite a drawcard on Australian stages.

They’ve since sold close to 10,000 records through sheer DIY nous, received praise from across the musical spectrum, supported the likes of The Misfits and Cosmic Psychos, and are now bringing their famed live act to The Gem for four massive free nights.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

Check out those supports! Ben Mastwyk & The Millions, Mitch Dillon & The Compulsive Ramblers, Matt Bourke and the Delusional Drunks and Smooch from Legless. They’ll ensure every night is a brand new experience, with each complimenting Sin City’s dynamic live performances in different ways.

The Gem boasts everything good, warm and welcoming that a neighbourhood bar with live music, DJs and great food can offer. Melbourne has long been in love with its country, soul and rock n roll vibes: it’s 50s kitsch meets good ol’ fashioned southern hospitality. There’s also a bunch of usual attractions; happy hour until 6pm on Monday to Friday, $10 margaritas and bloody marys on a Sunday.

Reserve special consideration for the menu, bursting with comforting delights made for all seasons thanks to Sonny’s fried chicken, burgers and sides.
