MEL&NYC is a celebration of two of the world’s greatest cities; Melbourne and New York City. It’s a cultural festival that presents an unprecedented program of events, exploring culture, politics, business and the everyday experience – as perceived by New Yorkers and Australians.
MEL&NYC is presented in collaboration with venues including The Wheeler Centre, which is excited to announce the newest events to be added to its own calendar. Pullitzer-winning journo Ronan Farrow will discuss the personal stories of abuse that led him to report so passionately on the culture of silence and impunity surrounding sexual misconduct in Hollywood and beyond.
Emily Nuzzbaum – the New Yorker’s incisive TV critic and observer of pop-culture – will discuss art and storytelling on screen, and the challenges of chronicling it.
In light of the festival glorifying the various cultures and social aspects of NYC, The Wheeler Centre has made sure that we’re not all fooled by glitz and glam of these portrayals. The Wheeler Centre presents The Big Grapple: Loving and Loathing New York City, an exploration of why some Melburnians don’t heart NYC. Sally Seltmann, Sami Shah, Dave Graney, Brodie Lancaster, and more yet to be announced will be regaling you with anecdotes of surviving – but not quite thriving – in the city that never sleeps.
