Craig Hill : Tartan About

craighill.jpg

Two things are certain for anyone who watches Craig Hill’s Tartan About: you’ll never look at seagulls the same way again, and he is most definitely gay. Did we mention he was gay? Yes, a topic he is not shy of, in fact he positively shoves it in the audience’s face with his opening boogie to some good ol’ fashioned ‘70s disco.

An avid fan of worldly affairs, he treated us to his ‘Gaussie’ accent (amongst others) – researched, it seems, from watching back-to-back Kath & Kim episodes – and occasionally broke into song. The classic You Cannae Shove Your Grannie Off the Bus, dedicated to a proud 70-year-old lesbian in a previous show, was a particular highlight.

The dancing continued as he rounded out the show with a three-song vote on which should be his next entrance ditty, before he jigged about to a medley of Scottish style popular music, such as Jesus Christ Superstar.

For a man as loud and proud as Craig Hill, his audience was remarkably straight-looking, but they lapped up every bit, from crude remarks to nipple grabs. You simply had to – one lapse and he could be picking on you next. Oh, and did we mention he’s gay?
