Melbourne indie group Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird present their most cohesive collection with Rosewater Crocodile.

Built on a bed of rich sounds and lyrical nuance, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird present their most cohesive collection of stories and music to date with their fourth full-length project, Rosewater Crocodile. The album, released 10 July, thrives on its ability to weave brooding, emotional moments with vibrant musicality and heart.

Featuring singles My Ghost & Its Crawling, Rosewater and Mercury Rising, the album was created in a chapel in Mollogghip, Victoria and produced by CTNF’s Lachlan Rose and Josh Barber. The record sees Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird explore the intricacies of relationships, the way we relate to one another, and the mysteries of the human condition.

Horns and strings blend together with warm textural rhythms from bass and guitar, while striking backing vocals buoy the lead vocals of Rose, whose tone offers a yearning perspective as he explores themes with intimacy and richness. The album represents a perfect gateway for newcomers to the band’s catalogue, while longtime fans will recognise the natural progression of the overall Cousin Tony sound.

Since making their emphatic entry with debut album Electric Brown in 2018, the band has consistently shown elevation and a curiosity to expand their sonic vision. They have released three albums in Electric Brown, New Romancer in 2019 and Smiles of Earth in 2022, with Rosewater Crocodile set to be the next exciting addition to an ever-powerful catalogue.

With their prolific output and constant touring, Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird have built a devoted following in their homeland. They have sold out shows across massive headline tours and played at numerous festivals including Falls Festival, Loch Hart, Happy Wanderer, NYE on the Hill and Beyond the Valley.

The upcoming tour will see the band’s treasured saxophonist Oliver Whitehead return from living overseas straight into the tour van, adding another layer to their already rich live sound. The tour represents a continuation of the band’s dedication to connecting with audiences through their joyous and cathartic live performances.
