Cosmic Psychos are hitting The Forum this weekend off the back of their new single

Words by Tom Parker

Melbourne punk royalty arrives at a seminal venue.

Melbourne punk kings Cosmic Psychos are making their long-awaited return to the stage, hitting The Forum on Sunday March 21 for an early and late show.

What you need to know

  • Cosmic Psychos are returning to the stage
  • They’ll hit The Forum off the back of their new single, ‘Mountain of Piss’
  • It will be there first live show in over a year

Keep up to date with all the latest music news here.

The show comes of the back of Psychos’ new single, ‘Mountain of Piss’ – the band’s first new track since 2018 – which is typically buzzsaw and jocular.

‘Mountain of Piss’ is a track of two halves. Spoken word commences the piece – a tour guide makes himself known over a PA – “Welcome to the Cosmic Psychos flying dingbat adventure tours,” he says. Then the instrumentals fade in behind a bruising angular guitar, and the ‘Mountain of Piss’ adventure begins.

I’ve got a thirst, to be the first/46 years I’ve been dreaming for this/The first to conquer the Mountain of Piss,” Ross Knight sings as the band begin their pursuit to the summit.

As the song clicks two minutes, a restrained instrumental bridge breaks into the song’s second half, and the band’s iconic group vocals come to the fore.

However what begins as a jovial take on getting drunk emerges as something more sinister. “You forget about your wife/You forget about your children/Forget about your life/You’re going down, down, down, down the other side.”

“‘Mountain of Piss’ is about the real life struggle of alcoholism,” Knight says of the song. “It’s not so much of a song, it’s a documentary. It’s a fine line between a functioning alcoholic and a non-functioning alcoholic!”

Cheers for another belter, you Psychos.
