Minister for Communications Mitch Fifield announced the news this morning, with funding distributed to grow digital stations and further aide traditional analogue stations affected by the reorganisation of the 803-960 MHz radio frequency band.

It comes in the wake of a record-breaking year for community radio, boasting a national listenership of 5.3 million – meaning one in for Australians are tuning in weekly.

“For 40 years, Australian governments have been committed to community radio standing alongside commercial and national radio services on available free-to-air broadcast platforms,” said Community Broadcasting Association of Australia CEO Jon Bisset.

“This increased funding supports community digital radio services over the next two years. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of those involved in helping us keep the community in your radio.”
