The award-winning play comes to Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre in June.
Gary Owen’s Iphigenia in Splott is set to hit the Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre stage on Chapel Street next month, bringing an Ancient Greek tale into 2021.
Based on the play Iphigenia in Aulis, the production follows Effie (Jessica Clarke) who hails from the Welsh working class district of Splott.

As her life spirals through a chaotic haze of drugs, drink, and drama, Effie seems like a woman on a mission for self-destruction. That is, until one night presents her with the opportunity to be something more.
Exploring morality, dignity, and neoliberalism, the contemporary reworking of this classic tale is cunning and captivating, taking out Best New Play at the UK Theatre Awards in 2015.
Running from Saturday June 5 until Sunday July 4 (Wednesday to Sunday), this powerful and provocative adaptation is certain to give you plenty to think about.
Established in 2002, Red Stitch has forged a reputation as one of Australia’s most successful independent theatre companies, one that’s unique in that it’s largely managed and staffed by the actors. Iphigenia in Splott is just another fascinating creation from Red Stitch canon.
