Club Clocktower is Moonee Ponds’ new monthly jazz and cabaret bar

Club Clocktower
Words by Staff Writer

Just once each month on a Friday night, the Clocktower Centre Cafe in Moonee Ponds turns into an intimate jazz and cabaret bar.

The relative rareity combined with the very talented lineup makes Club Clocktower a real event, while the 1898 Bechstein grand piano creates a beautiful atmosphere.

The jazz and cabaret on offer will hit the Clocktower Centre Cafe on April 29, May 20 and June 24, so put those dates in your calendar, and check out who’s on below.

So far, Club Clocktower has seen the likes of Dolly Diamond, Mama Alto and Jude Perl take to their stage, adding to the impressive diversity usually on offer at the Clocktower Centre.

What’s more, there are wine and cheese platters available to order from the bar, along with a signature ‘clocktail’ to enhance the Friday night experience. The next three months continue this hot-streak with an alluring array of performances to get behind.

Clocktower Club lineup

Friday April 29 at 8pm: Peppy Smears

Peppy Smears

A self-described “drag provocateur, cabaret queen and glamdrogynous painted man”. With an act inspired by Annie Lennox and David Bowie, Smears also adds a sprinkling of Elton John, so he’ll put that grand piano to good use.

Friday, 20 May at 8pm: Justin Clausen

A power ballad specialist, singer, performer, cabaret artist and all-round diva. He’ll be bringing his award-winning show ‘HE’S EVERY WOMAN’ to Club Clocktower.

Friday, 24 June at 8pm: Belinda Reid

The two-decade veteran jazz vocalist described as the musical love-child of Adele and Uta Lemper. She’s toured the world, playing virtually every Melbourne arts festival of note, and has appeared in several theatrical performances including The Boy From Oz.

Tickets are available for individual shows or a three-show package. $27.50 per person for individual shows, or $66.00 three-show package (available until Friday, 29 April).

You can call the Box Office to purchase a package on (03) 9423 9191, or dive into the performers’ backgrounds at the website here.
