You know when you try to explain the poetics and artistry of a Kendrick Lamar song to your parents, but all they hear is a man talking over a drum beat and a myriad of references they don’t understand? Well, that’s essentially what it feels like when Clowns tries to convince you that their new single, ‘I Shaved My Legs For You’, is “at it’s heart, a love song.”
However, they’re not lying. The tune is unusually hardcore for a ballad, and the punk vocals that waver between lamentation and pure rage are hard to connect to the ideal of love, but trust me, it’s there. It explores the love that exists in every crevice of the human condition; romances and flings in workplaces and family homes, whether it be open or forbidden, omnipresent or taboo. ‘I Shaved My Legs For You’ is a fittingly furious yet tender final offering before the five-piece head into the studio for their upcoming 4th studio album.
The music video is just as complex and emotionally-drenched as the single it represents; pink neon light saturates the band and you get to watch them literally throw themselves into the music. After an 8 year career and with no signs of stopping, it’s exciting to see Clowns headbang and shred like they’re still blasting through a set at a wild and sweaty punk party in a mate’s living room.
Clowns are bringing their new single and a powder keg of energy around Australia for their Freezing in the Sun Australian Tour. The punk outfit will take over The Corner on Saturday 6 October, no doubt keen to play to a hometown crowd in the midst of a five-month tour, and will be supported by VOIID.
Strap yourself in and get ready for a wild ride, because Clowns are gearing up to bring you the most head-banging, scream-singing, and aerodynamic tour of 2018.
