Applications for the annual arts grants program are now open.

City of Melbourne has opened applications for its annual arts grants program for 2022, with grants of up to $20,000 on offer.

The grants are available to artists and small to medium arts organisations from all backgrounds and abilities and fall into three categories: arts projects, Aboriginal arts projects and arts residencies.

The council will consider support for one-off projects, specific components of an annual program or creative developments that result in a public outcome within the City of Melbourne boundaries in 2022.

Projects presented online and creative developments that don’t have a public outcome are eligible for a grant, as long as they demonstrate a connection to the City of Melbourne.

Artists and small to medium arts organisations can receive up to $20,000 in funding for the creation and presentation of projects shared with the public or up to $5,000 for creative developments only.

The same applies to the Aboriginal arts projects grant, which is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and small to medium arts organisations.

The arts residency category offers three grants of $10,000 each.

The Boyd Studio-1 residency offers studio space in-kind and is open to artists and small to medium arts organisations. Two residencies are available of six-months each from January 10 to June 30, 2022 and July 4 to December 19, 2022.

The Boyd Garret residency also offers studio space in-kind and is open to writers in any genre, with one residency that occurs over 12 months – January 10 to December 19, 2022.

Finally, the Art and Heritage Collection residency offers access to the Art and Heritage Collection. It is open to individual artists and offers one residency of up to 12 months with dates to be negotiated.

In the 2021 arts grants program, 110 artists and arts organisations received $980,000 worth of funding.

Applications for 2022 grants close at 5pm on Tuesday June 15, 2021. To apply for a grant or to find out more, visit the City of Melbourne website.
