With new single ‘Pushing Punishment’, Newcastle’s CHLOE GILL takes another excellent stride into a brand new year.
Following on from the track ‘Down The Drain’, released in January, the latest offering from Gill is a powerful anthem that serves as a reminder of her unshakeable talent as both songwriter and vocalist. ‘Pushing Punishment’ was created with collaborator Gareth Hudson (Buddy Knox, Hazy Cosmic Jive Studios) and as Gill explains, was a process that came together quite quickly once the foundation was set.
“This song feels like me becoming me. Growing into my adult self, growing into my personality, being kind to myself and others, listening to my own heart and my own needs, accepting my neurodivergence and my personality and learning about how to pave my own life for how I want to live it and achieve my dreams. Learning to “fill my cup” first or to “put my own oxygen mask on first”. I can’t show up for anyone else until I’ve shown up for me first.” CHLOE GILL
Gill found inspiration for this track in the DNA of music by artists including Bon Iver, Sharon Van Etten and Gang Of Youths; all artists who lead with strong emotional intelligence.
These are influences that have aligned perfectly with the artist’s own signature style, with Gill wearing her lived experiences and emotions on her sleeve as a songwriter and performer.
