Chapel Off Chapel is streaming Kyle Lionhart’s unforgettable February show this weekend

Words by Tom Parker

Relive Lionhart’s stunning 2020 Chapel Summer Sessions performance.

Earlier in the year before the pandemic took hold, Chapel Summer Sessions welcomed some of music’s brightest talents to perform at the iconic and equally-intimate Prahran venue.

The likes of Thando, Bobby Alu, Reece Mastin and Jess & Matt took to the stage across the month of February. Then there was the stunning shows from Kyle Lionhart on Saturday February 15 and Sunday February 16.

Chapel Off Chapel acted as the perfect venue for Lionhart’s smooth, whisky-soaked vocals, as the singer-songwriter took the audience on a journey through his acclaimed 2019 album, Too Young, while also performing cuts from his two EPs.

To celebrate the memorable show, Chapel Off Chapel will be streaming the gig for free in its entirety this weekend via Chapel Off Chapel and Lionhart’s Facebook pages. Lionhart first captivated Chapel Summer Sessions audiences in 2017 – at a time when the songwriter and former busker was just making a name for himself.

Forming a strong connection with the venue following that first encounter, there was plenty of anticipation coming into Lionhart’s 2020 Summer Sessions return. And he didn’t disappoint, mesmerising his crowd with a string section and pianist in tow.

“It was a pretty nerve-racking time for me, in the sense as to where I was taking my show; playing with string players, doing something different to what I’ve ever done… but they were my favourite shows I’ve ever played,” Lionhart said after the gigs.

“There was something so special about those nights. They were the dream shows. If I could do that every night of my career for the rest of my life, I’d be a happy man.”

Kyle Lionhart’s 2020 Chapel Summer Sessions show will be streamed for free via Chapel Off Chapel’s Facebook page on Saturday September 12 from 8pm.
