Wherever you’re reading this – on the train, at your kitchen table, in your desk, at the pub – I want you to think about the incredible women in your lives. Think about all they do and all they’ve had to carry.
To all the strong, incredible, intelligent, resilient women, non-binary and gnc people kicking butt every day, please keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t be afraid to celebrate your achievements, don’t be afraid to speak up and speak out, and never ever be afraid to ask for more. Thank you for influencing and inspiring us, and those around us, every single day. You can’t be what you can’t see, and every time you put yourself out there, you’re sending a ripple into the universe.
Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.
If we leave behind one thing, let it be that all the women that come after us have the easiest path to outdo us in every way possible – in that way, it’ll all be worth it. And in the word’s of Rupi Kaur: “We all move forward when we recognise how resilient and striking the women around us are.”
To showcase the diverse range of talent in the Aussie music scene, across all genres, we’ve put together a playlist bursting with incredible home-grown female, non-binary and transgender musicians to celebrate these amazing female-identifying musicians and all that they do. These artists don’t need our endorsement — their music speaks for itself. Check out our International Women’s Day playlist below:
While you’re listening to our playlist, never forget, rock’n’roll was invented by a queer black woman.
