Smooth Talkin’ Bastards is the comedic team of experienced comedians Casey Talbot, Davo and Shayne Hunter. All three are from Brisbane and were personally affected by the recent floods. Thus, they’ve decided to donate all proceeds from their show to flood relief, whilst trying their best not to make it obvious.
“Our kind of main focus is that we’re happy for tickets sales to go to Queensland but it’s not our major publicity campaign, it’s just something we wanted to do. It becomes a bit cliché when you say ‘we’re doing this for a disaster’; it becomes more of a publicity stunt. This is just something we can do,” Talbot says.
The trio’s careers are rich in experience. Talbot is a prolific performer in Brisbane’s comedy scene, and was one of the hand-picked supports for American comedian and movie star Pauly Shore on his Australian tour. He has also written for radio at Triple M and Sea FM.
Davo was only 19 years old when he won the $10,000 first prize on the nationally televised show, So You Want To Be A Comedian, and was involved in controversy after he walked off Last Comic Standing following a dispute with the judges over a knock-knock joke.
Shayne Hunter was selected to perform all over the country in the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Comedy Zone Showcase, and frequently performs at The Comedy Zone in Melbourne.
Talbot describes the show, which includes sound effects, music and film, as “something a bit different for the festival”. The guys are thrilled to contribute to Melbourne’s cultural scene. “We’re looking forward to coming to the cultural capital that is Melbourne, that brought us such classics as Phantom Of The Opera, Wicked and of course, Warney – The Musical“.
Casey Talbot, Davo and Shane Hunter perform Smooth Talkin’ Bastards at The Bookshop Room at Trades Hall, from April 12 until April 17. It’s at 7pm Tuesday – Saturday and 6pm on Sundays. Tickets are $18 and available through Ticketmaster online, 1300 660 013 and on the door.
