Not every whisky collection takes 16 years to build.
Casa de Vinos has spent that time amassing more than 1,000 bottles of rare spirits, and this March they’re cracking open five of the most exceptional for Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
Rare Whisky and the World’s Best Cheese returns after selling out two years running, bringing together top-shelf pours and artisanal cheeses specifically imported for the occasion. The South Melbourne venue has become known for housing Australia’s largest collection of hard-to-find whiskies, and this annual event offers the chance to taste bottles that rarely leave the top shelf.

Each guided evening session includes five rare whiskies matched with five exceptional cheeses, plus welcome cocktails in the lounge to kick things off. The organisers are promising their boldest lineup yet, with some of the oldest and rarest bottles in the collection making an appearance across the three available sessions.
Three sessions are available throughout the festival: opening night on 20 March, then 26 and 27 March, all running from 7pm to 9pm. Seating is allocated, and the event caters to vegetarian and pescatarian dietary requirements.
Given the event’s track record of consecutive sell-outs, securing tickets sooner rather than later would be wise.
Melbourne Food & Wine Festival runs from 20 to 29 March.
