Entries are now open for the 2011 Cancer Council Victoria Arts Awards, which gives Australians touched by cancer an opportunity to share their experience creatively through art, writing and film.
Arts Awards is open to artists of all standards, and entries are accepted in Visual Art, Short Story, Film, Poetry, Indigenous Art, and Youth and Children’s Writing and Art.
This year’s theme is I Am, and entries will be judged by high profile experts including Tony Wilson and Arnold Zable.
Cancer Council Victoria spokesperson, Irene Manitta, said Arts Awards is open to all Australians who have faced cancer whether it be directly or through a loved one.
"Cancer presents an enormous physical and emotional challenge for all those affected, including patients, family, friends and carers," she said.
"We know that scientific evidence suggests that artistic and literary expression helps many through their cancer journey, and are proud that the benefits of Arts Awards have been recognised internationally at The Ability Media International Awards for its creative excellence and social relevance."
A diverse range of works will be displayed in a touring exhibition that begins on July 10 in Melbourne, and travels throughout regional Victoria to places including Frankston, Korumburra and Geelong.
Entries close on Friday April 8. For more info go to www.artsawards.com.au or call 1300 656 585.
