Bunjil Place launches free outdoor event Open Space with Pseudo Echo, Cookin' on 3 Burners and more

Bunjil Place presents six weeks of free outdoor entertainment with live music, cultural performances and open-air cinema.

Running every Saturday from 7 February to 21 March, Open Space transforms the Bunjil Place Plaza into a summer evening destination. From 6pm to 9pm each week, punters can catch legendary Australian acts including synth pop icons Pseudo Echo, soul-funk trio Cookin’ on 3 Burners with Stella Angelico, Golden Guitar winner Andrew Swift, and vocalist Wild Gloriosa, alongside Kutcha, Cash and the Last Drinks.

Beyond the big names, Open Space showcases diverse talent with veena virtuoso Hari Sivanesan, spectacular Lion Dance on Poles performances, and even an outdoor screening of 1955 sci-fi horror Tarantula. Each Saturday evening brings something completely different to the plaza.

Launch night features a rare collaboration between Kutcha, Cash and the Last Drinks, with support from Canisha. Valentine’s weekend takes a quirky turn with ukulele ensemble The Uke Death Squad setting the mood before a screening of vintage sci-fi horror under the stars.

Year of the Horse festivities dominate 21 February with Elysian Blues, DJ Yeo behind the decks, and the visually stunning Hung Hing Lion Dance performers. A week later, 1980s new-wave legends Pseudo Echo deliver their synth-pop catalogue, backed by Lupa J and Alkira Synth Collective.

Country takes over on 7 March when Golden Guitar recipient Andrew Swift headlines alongside Ethan Calway and Tegan Blackstock. Expect plenty of line dancing. The following week spotlights emerging South East talent through The GRID Series Release Party, showcasing Martha, Kiid KODA, Jordz and ACP before Cookin’ on 3 Burners with Stella Angelico take over with special guests N’fa Jones and Joelistics.

Closing night on 21 March honours South Asian sounds with neo-R&B artist Wild Gloriosa and veena master Hari Sivanesan, coinciding with the launch of gallery exhibition The Offbeat Sari.
