CERES has launched an urgent community fundraising campaign to raise $150,000 by 30 June to secure its future.
The Brunswick East environmental organisation faces financial pressures across all revenue streams for the first time in its history. CERES operates through a combination of social enterprise income, government grants and community donations, all of which are currently under strain due to rising operational costs.
The organisation has already raised approximately $130,000 towards its target through community donations. CERES provides environmental education programmes, maintains organic farms and operates green spaces including Brunswick East park and Joe’s Market Garden in Coburg.

CERES education programmes connect young people with sustainable living skills and environmental knowledge. The organisation’s organic farms produce food for the community while regenerating soil and providing inner-city nature connection opportunities for residents.
The environmental organisation maintains green spaces that serve both human and non-human communities in Melbourne’s inner north. CERES operates from a former rubbish tip site that has been transformed into an environmental sanctuary and community hub.
Rising costs have affected the organisation’s ability to maintain current service levels across its education, farming and community programmes. The fundraising campaign aims to provide financial stability during this transitional period while CERES adapts its operations.
Community members can donate through the organisation’s website, with options for one-time or monthly contributions. CERES has operated as a community environmental organisation for several decades, providing hands-on learning experiences and environmental advocacy.
