Amidst the hustle and bustle of Sydney Road is local gem Record Paradise, an essential stop to make on your vinyl tour on Record Store Day.

An independent store in Brunswick on Sydney Road with a huge selection of new and second hand vinyl, DVDs, CDs, books and vinyl accessories. Owned and operated by local music lovers, Paul Allen and Renae Maxwell, the store specialises in local 7” releases. Record Store Day is April 23, an annual celebration of local vinyl music stores.

A vanguard of the local music scene, Record Paradise stocks the best in local independent releases from labels such as iT, Cousin Wills, Flightless,  Efficient Spaces, HOMELESS, Chapter, Mistletone, Poison City Records, MILK, Aarght Records, Caroline, Inertia, Remote Control and many more.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

“My partner and I both do community radio, and have so for 15 years,” Maxwell says, on her love for the local music scene.

“For us, it’s an important part of connecting. Even though doing a graveyard shift, you’re isolated from other people, there is this connection to people who are into the same thing as you.

“I have always felt this isolation and connection at the same time, and use my love for music as a way to be able to break that down a little bit. It might sound weird because I’m in a room full of strangers, and somehow I’m feeling really connected.”

Visit Record Paradise at 159 Sydney Road, Brunswick, open every day except Monday. Or, if you want to pick up a vinyl, head to their website here or give them a call (03 938889056) or email them at ([email protected])
