Brunswick welcomes storytelling event celebrating the songs that shaped four local lives

Brunswick
words by Meaghan Doherty

Melbourne locals take the stage to share personal stories about songs that have shaped them at Brunswick Playlist Storytelling event.

On Tuesday 27 January at Howler in Brunswick, Playlist Storytellers will showcase four Melbourne local’s connections to a song that greatly shaped who they are.

Hearing the origin stories of how songs are crafted is fascinating, but once songs are released they are no longer just the possession of the artist. They become intertwined with the lived experiences of those listening. The stories that are tied to songs can be even more captivating than the inspiration behind the song.

Four storytellers will take the stage: an adventurous filmmaker, a legendary radio host, a die-hard soccer fan and a sentimental comedian, each bringing their own connection to a song that helped shape who they are.

Playlist Storytellers in Brunswick

Each storyteller will share what Playlist Storytellers call the second life of a song, the life it takes on after being released. After sharing a story about a song that has played a part in their lives, the audience will then listen to the song with the new added context in an attempt to deepen their appreciation.

Since their first event in Toronto in December 2024, Playlist Storytellers has travelled around the globe pre-selecting locals from each city to take the stage and their next stop is Melbourne.

What started in the living rooms of a couple of music fanatics looking for a place to discuss the lived stories surrounding music, aims to create a space for the second life of songs to be showcased and celebrated.
