Fresh off the back of announcing her forthcoming release Chocolate Cake EP and dropping her new single ‘You Get In My Way’, Ali Barter will headline the gig to give a taste of her new tunes.
Partially written in the US before COVID-19 halted Barter’s American tour, forcing her to return home to Australia, the EP’s final touches were made remotely with the help of a range of collaborators.
“I wrote ‘You Get In My Way’ in Nashville in 2019. I was travelling without my husband and had this feeling of freedom to do all the silly things I did when I was single, like eat lolly snakes for dinner, stay up really late watching the Real Housewives or plan an impromptu trip to Brazil,” says Barter of her latest single.
“I often have funny conversations with my friends in long term relationships about the dumb things we would do if our partner wasn’t around. Ultimately I don’t want to do these things, but it was fun to explore the feeling of rebelling from the security of a long term relationship,” she says.
Due for release on April 30, Chocolate Cake EP follows the success of 2019’s Hello I’m Doing My Best which earned Barter international success.
She’ll be joined at Brunswick Ballroom tonight by Juice Webster on support, with the gig to be followed by some grand piano magic performed by a handful of Melbourne pianists.
Entry is free but, due to COVID-19 capacity limits, pre-registering your attendance is essential to secure your spot.
