Bronwyn Isaac left New York, followed her girlfriend to Amsterdam, and is now bringing the whole messy story to Melbourne.
Why Are You Here is a comedy hour that catches flights and feelings, and it arrives at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this month with a lot of baggage (the good kind).
Bronwyn Isaac left her life as an election reporter in New York City to follow her girlfriend to Amsterdam, with very little plan and a whole lot of chaos waiting on the other side of customs. What followed was a crash course in immigration law, digital media censorship, gender transition, and working for a genuinely horrible billionaire boss named Bryan.
All of this, somehow, becomes a comedy show.

Isaac’s work sits in that sweet spot of playfully dark, the kind of comedy that makes you laugh at things you probably shouldn’t, and then think about them for days after.
She’s been spotted on Showtime, Sundance TV, MTV and TLC, and has published comedy and pop culture writing for Vice, Paper Mag, Bustle, Reductress, Laughspin and Cracked.
Why Are You Here has already done the rounds in Amsterdam, New York, Seattle and Berlin, and now it’s landing in Melbourne for a 14-night run at the Motley Spielhaus.
The show reportedly came to Isaac in a vision involving a crow on her balcony. The crow lit a cigarette. She wrote a show about censorship, lesbian love, immigration lawyers and billionaire bosses. The crow wanted more salami. Honestly, relatable.
