Britney Spears has revealed plans to perform in Australia in an Instagram post shared four days ago.

In a post announcing she’s sending a piano to her son this year, Britney Spears dropped a significant hint about future live performances, teasing an Australian tour. While she stated she will never perform in the US again due to what she described as extremely sensitive reasons, she expressed hope to perform in the UK and Australia very soon.

Spears painted a specific picture of what these performances might look like: sitting on a stool with a red rose in her hair, styled in a bun, performing alongside her son. She praised her son as a huge star and said she feels humbled to be in his presence.

Australian fans last saw Britney Spears live during her Femme Fatale Tour in 2011, which hit Perth Arena, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Sydney’s Acer Arena and Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. Before that, she toured Australia in 2009 with The Circus Starring Britney Spears tour, visiting similar venues across the country.

Since bursting onto the scene in 1998 with Baby One More Time, Britney Spears has become one of pop music’s most iconic figures. Her career spans massive hits including Oops!… I Did It Again, Toxic, Gimme More and Womanizer, selling over 100 million records worldwide and earning her the title of Princess of Pop.

In the same Instagram post, Spears opened up about her dance videos, explaining they serve as a healing tool for issues in her body that people have no idea about. She acknowledged the videos can be embarrassing sometimes but described them as part of walking through the fire to save her life.

No specific dates, venues or cities have been announced for the potential Australian shows. These performances would mark Spears’ first shows in years and her first international appearances since ending her 13-year conservatorship in 2021. Her last major tour was the Piece of Me Tour in 2018.

Spears’ conservatorship, which ran from 2008 to 2021, saw her father Jamie Spears controlling her personal and financial affairs. The arrangement sparked the global FreeBritney movement, with fans advocating for her freedom.

Australian audiences haven’t seen Britney Spears perform in 15 years, making this potential return particularly significant for local fans who grew up with her music dominating radio and MTV throughout the late 90s and early 2000s.
