Brisbane rapper Yaz unleashes booming drill track, ‘Coast 2 Coast’

The emerging rapper returns with his third single.

Brisbane-based rapper Yaz has unveiled his new single, ‘Coast 2 Coast’, a booming drill track inspired by the trap/hip hop subgenre and the underground culture it has sparked in the Australian music scene.

Since making his debut in 2020 with ‘4509 Freestyle’, Yaz has amassed an avid fanbase, with his first two singles together collecting just shy of 200,000 Spotify streams.

Keep up with the latest music interviews, news and reviews here.

His latest release, ‘Coast 2 Coast’ melds bass-heavy beats and rhythmic rhymes giving fans insight into his experiences on the streets.

Born in South Chicago, drill has copped a bad reputation due to its connection to drugs, violence and crime, though Yaz is determined to keep the genre free of censorship.

Having channelled his energy into his music following the murder of his friend Girum Mekonnen in late 2020, the young rapper uses drill as a means of telling his story and attests the music doesn’t incite violence.

The single comes hand-in-hand with a film clip shot by Caljay in the streets of northern Brisbane. The erratic camera work mimics the energy of the single perfectly, adding emphasis to each beat.
