Boris the Blade : Warpath

warpath.jpg

Title track, Warpath, opens the album in brutal fashion. Daniel Sharp’s lead vocals are hectic, and it doesn’t take long before your head starts involuntarily banging along. With two guitarists and a bassist, the band are able to conjure up some fairly diverse instrumental dynamics, consistently backed by the thundering percussion of Karl Stellar. Backstabber is the perfect example, with a drumline that shoots off like a machine gun before a neat tempo change.

Misery is about as aggressive as music can get – it’s a full on sensory assault. Nihilist mixes the lads’ signature deathcore tone with something a bit more alternative, almost Marilyn Manson-esque.

The riff that drives Omens is epic, while Paralysed catches you off guard momentarily before launching into the chaotic opus that follows.

The percussion that opens Thorns is monumental and here the instrumentals are at their most impressive on the album. The amp effects used throughout Devastator could have been experimented with more, similarly for Elixir. The album closes strong with Solace, leaving you fairly amped and ready for more.
