Book Doof is a social reading experience set inside some of Melbourne’s most atmospheric venues — part reading session, part ambient hangout.
There’s no assigned book. No pressure to perform. Just bring something you want to read and settle into a shared space of quiet focus, low lighting and carefully curated music.
Think: a room full of people reading together, without the awkwardness of a traditional book club.
Across the session, the energy gently shifts — from individual reading to optional, low-pressure social moments. You can stay in your own world, or connect with others over what you’re reading.
For this special edition at Revolver Upstairs, we’re hosting a fundraiser in support of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation — bringing together a larger audience, extended format, and a deeper sense of purpose.
Whether you come solo or with friends, Book Doof is designed to be welcoming, non-performative, and quietly memorable.
What to expect:
A comfortable, atmospheric reading space
Ambient music (no interruptions, no requests)
A highly engaged, like-minded crowd
Optional social moments towards the end
A unique cultural experience somewhere between a book club and a night out
What to bring:
A book (or anything you want to read)
A phone on silent
An openness to something a little different
