Aussie percussionist Bobby Alu has played with every dub/reggae/roots act in the country and recently released a solo album, recorded over three years at the Queensland Conservatory of Music. His new single is a ukulele-fuelled surf folk number in the Jack Johnson/Bruno Mars tradition – sunny and sweet. Despite belonging to this largely toxic genre, Bobby manages to summon a neat, casual charm for Take It Or Leave It. His melody is tidy and effortless, and his afro is a work of art.
