With strong roots in Balkan rhythms and a pumping accordion section, Black Sea Ensemble plays something for everyone. They are an eclectic group under the bow of violinist and seasoned folkie, Caitlin French. The ensemble brings audiences a flavoured feast of music; a dash of popular Russian tunes, a pinch of Greek dance, a spritz of Klezmer favourite or a cumbia for good measure.
Strong rhythms are complimented by the melody and harmony of the clarinets and flute, with lyrics sung in a range of languages. The ensemble play a number of traditional songs suitable for folk dancing and may even attempt to dance themselves while playing! Black Sea ensemble love nothing more than an audience who recognise a song and joins in.
Based in Melbourne, they enjoy performing wherever the culturally diverse audience that knows and loves our music can be found. Their music has wide appeal, especially for those that enjoy clapping and foot tapping or dare to dance and joining in the chorus.
Come join them for 2 sets from 4-6pm this Sunday.
