“We did a band pre-sale that helped with the funding,” explains vocalist and guitarist Pete Williamson. “If fans pre-ordered the album while we were making it they were rewarded with a signed copy of the release but also a credit on the album as an executive producer. So yeah, on the back cover of the record it’s got about 168 names of fans that ordered it really early and helped us out. So that extra injection of capital meant that we could spend a few extra days to make sure it was all killer.”
Considering the financial costs, workload and sheer logistics involved in releasing an album independently, Williamson and co are more than happy to have the record finally see the light of day.
“We were stoked. You know when you start to record your record, you’ve got to go through the process and do artwork and then print. We’ve been doing it for a while so we’ve been really excited to finally release it and play it to people.”
Despite the time it took writing a bunch of songs and finding the right people to work with in the studio, the band kept their original goal of trying to produce the best possible record they could.
“Working with Lindsay Gravina [who worked as producer] was unbelievable. He has years of experience and knowledge just to pull a great sound.”
That sound was one that Black Devil Yard Boss created through a culmination of each member’s musical influences. “Once we jumped in the band room and started fleshing out the tunes, things evolved and we tried different things,” adds Williamson. “It was really like an evolution of taking influences that we had and wanting to do something that we hadn’t necessarily done before in the band.”
So with the finished album now in hand, Black Devil Yard Boss are now setting their sights on the album launch tour, and in particular the Melbourne show at Revolver. “When we were planning local we wanted to, you know, reward all the Melbourne fans with a big hometown show first,” admits Williamson. “Over the last two years we’ve done multiple tours around the country supporting other people or headlining ourselves so were going to go out and do an album launch tour around the country and you know take the rock n’ roll to the people.”
