Big Jazz Day Out returns to Monash University's Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts on 21 March with a stacked program of local icons and genre-bending collaborations.

The day-long festival brings together some of Australian jazz’s most respected names alongside the emerging talent of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music.

Vince Jones performs with the Monash Sinfonia, Mildlife closes proceedings with cosmic disco and deep-space jazz in the Alexander Theatre, and Mindy Meng Wang joins Paul Grabowsky for an intimate collaboration in the David Li Sound Gallery.

The program spans traditional swing through to experimental improvisation and Latin grooves. Aaron Choulai and Roman MC team up with the Monash Art Ensemble, The Shuffle Club bring high-octane swing featuring Rebecca Barnard, and Mama Alto presents a luminous tribute to Billie Holiday. The Cloud Maker delivers award-winning sonic storytelling, while Dany Maia with the Monash Brazilian Ensemble and Yunior Terry with the Monash Latin Ensemble add Afro-Latin heat to the bill.

Late-night performances cap the festival with Cookin’ On 3 Burners bringing deep funk and organ-driven soul to The Count’s, while Mildlife takes over the Alexander Theatre. Every stage offers something different, from cinematic orchestral arrangements to intimate duets and full-band blowouts.
