Belief System is a large-scale sound and visual installation made from thousands of voiced beliefs, ranging from the profound to the trivial, and collected from a diversity of residents across the city. This project is showing in The Substation’s Main Space from 4 – 13 May, Wednesdays to Saturdays, 12 – 6pm.
120 speakers, suspended at various heights across the installation space, will carry these voiced beliefs in flocks. The movement of these flocks will be triggered by the weather, via connection to a small weather station fixed to The Substation’s roof. The system is fluid and ever-changing, just like our beliefs.
There will be an Artist Talk on Saturday 6 May, where attendees can learn about the people behind the work, their conceptual obsessions and the creative processes that have resulted in this installation. The Main Space will also be open late, til 8pm, on Saturday 13 May, for those unable to get The Substation before 6pm.
