Current Joys will take on Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in a few months.

Current Joys, the solo project of Surf Curse drummer and lead singer Nick Rattigan, is set to head to make an Australian debut this April.

From his breakout album Wild Heart to the collaborative sounds of his most recent release, 2023’s LOVE + POP, Rattigan’s Current Joys is a long-beloved figure in the underground bedroom pop scene.

Hailing from Nevada, Rattigan launched Current Joys in 2013, the same year he formed the garage-pop duo Surf Curse with his classmate Jacob Rubeck.

Over the years, Rattigan put out a number of different albums and collections on Bandcamp and elsewhere, showcasing his musical versatility. The journey took him from Reno to New York and eventually to Los Angeles, where Current Joys found a home in the city’s DIY garage scene.

The pivotal moment arrived in 2021 with Voyager, the first professional studio recording for Current Joys. The album, featuring a backing band, marked a departure from the solo format, presenting an expansive indie rock sound. Inspired by Rattigan’s love for film, the album drew from the highly stylized storytelling of filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and Andrei Tarkovsky.

The Australian tour comes on the heels of LOVE + POP, released in 2023.  With guest appearances from Lil Yachty, Slow Hollows, and pop singer YOUR ANGEL, the album represents a further escalation in sound.

Tickets to see Current Joys in Australia go on sale on Tuesday, January 23 at 10am, with a presale opening the day before. Grab yours here
