Beck is heading to Australia accompanied by a full orchestra for the very first time this May.
The genre-defying artist has locked in a limited run of five orchestral performances across Sydney and Melbourne, bringing a concert format to local shores that has previously graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages. Beck has taken his orchestral sets to London’s Royal Albert Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, and now Australian audiences finally get their turn.
Melbourne scores two nights at the Palais Theatre on 12 and 13 May, where Beck will be joined onstage by Philharmonia Australia, one of the country’s leading session orchestras. Led by Orchestra Director Leah Zweck with Chong Lim AM as Orchestra Supervisor, the ensemble has accompanied Josh Groban, John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John, Hans Zimmer, Michael Bolton, Harry Connick Jnr and Ministry of Sound on national tours.

The orchestral arrangements will see Beck rework material from across his extensive and eclectic catalogue. Expect reimagined versions of tracks from the multi-platinum Odelay, the globetrotting Mutations, the reflective Sea Change and Grammy Album of the Year winner Morning Phase, along with a handful of surprises. Each performance will feature full orchestral arrangements that completely reimagine the original recordings.
Until now, Beck’s orchestral shows have been confined to landmark concert halls across the US and UK, making these Australian dates brand new territory for the format. With three nights at the Sydney Opera House and two at the Palais Theatre, the five-show run represents the widest rollout the orchestral project has seen to date.
