Lovers of the Bebop idiom pioneered in New York during the 1940’s, The James Lockwood Trio performs the compositions of Charlie Parker and Bud Powell, in addition to the music of numerous lesser-known composers of the Bebop tradition.
A proponent of the Jazz-Arco style pioneered by bass innovators Jimmie Blanton and Slam Stewart, and carried on today by American bassists Ari Roland and Jamale Davis, titular bandleader and upright bassist James Lockwood employs the cello-esque timbre of the bowed upright bass in pursuit of the unique melodic invention and sophistication which characterises the music of Bebop.
Sporting the classic format of guitar, upright bass, and drumkit, The James Lockwood Trio performs at Ragtime Tavern’s upstairs room for listening audiences Saturday November 2nd. Tickets available for $10. Music 8:45 – 10:45 pm.
