Sydney Road Festival is back for 2018 and this year the festival is set to deliver a good time with a huge range of venues taking part, each offering massive lineups.
So that you don’t spend half the day running around trying to figure out where you want to be, here’s a low-down of what’s going on at this year’s Sydney Road Festival.
The Penny Black will continue to do so in fine form as part of the Sydney Road Street Party when they put on 13 top live acts across two stages as part of the festivities. Hometown pub-rockers The Pretty Littles will offer punters their abrasive punk fervour and much-loved onstage banter, while resident rowdy bunch Drunk Mums will bring their punk-garage fusion to the stage also. Joining them comes the dark and frenzied sounds of Horace Bones, self-described ratbags Mesa Cosa, and brooding post-punk outfit Destrends. Not to mention Murphy, Zoe Fox and the Rocket Clocks and a hefty load of others.
Coming as part of a two-week long celebration of women in the music business, The Retreat promises good times all-round with their gorgeous lineup spanning all the way from punk to country. The Kat O Army is a wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve kind of artist, and will bring her thrashing punk sound to the stage with Arna Rox & The Truckstops, Jemma Nicole Band and Emily Ulman also featuring. Rounding it all outcomes Twilight in Tulsa and The Tiana Martel Band and the soulful, easy-listening sounds of Rachel Caddy Band. And if that’s not enough to get you going, it’s all for flippin’ free.
Edinburgh Castle has kept the calibre of their 2018 Sydney Road Street Party lineup offering extremely high. Grace Turner will kick things off, bringing her confessional style of songwriting and haunting vocals to the beer garden, followed by hometown jazzy-pop infused wonder Nitida. Later in the arvo sees Alister Turrill taking to the front bar, a blues, folk and roots singer-songwriter from the surf coast that’s been steadily racking up acclaim since he began his career at small festivals and songwriting competitions.
The Brunny are now set to throw a massive day of expertly-crafted music as part of the Sydney Road Street Party, complete with 19 acts across two stages, a BBQ and a smattering of drink specials to keep you going all day long. Kicking it all off on the inside stage comes two-piece blues-rock duo The Jacksonville Trial while genre-bending up-and-comers Team Vom will hold down the outside stage. Also featuring on the day will be psychedelic duo Morning Morning, The Deadlips and Jarface. From early afternoon, right on until the evening when DJs Dan Attard and Obliveus take to their respective stages, the Brunswick Hotel’s Sydney Street Party celebration is set to be nothing short of an absolute cracking party.
Charles Weston will jump in on the Sydney Road Street Party with a stellar lineup blending pop, folk and country in a beautiful Sunday afternoon of music. Veteran singer-songwriter Sean McMahon will feature alongside Brooke Russell’s dark alt-country music, having drawn influence from time spent in Nashville thanks to a Creative Victoria grant. Hometown pop-folk artist Shannen James will also play the Weston, her sound having been likened to those such as Angus and Julia Stone, Sarah Blasko and Kita Alexander, while topping it off comes DJ Lady Blades who’ll spin her creative mix of ‘60s, rhythm ‘n’ blues, surf, garage and soul.
