Abseil Tasmania’s mammoth Gordon Dam

Dropping down Tasmania’s epic Gordon Dam is one of the top adrenaline activities to do in the world, let alone Australia. Standing 140m at its peak, Gordon Dam is the world’s highest commercial abseil. This feat is only for the most daring punters — approach with caution.

Scuba dive the S.S. Yongala shipwreck

There’s something unnerving about diving a shipwreck. In contrast to diving a reef, it’s the mystery and imprecise history of the setting which is haunting. S.S. Yongala, which vanished during a cyclone in 1911, sits 30m below the ocean surface in the Great Barrier Reef and has become an artificial reef home to hundreds of species of marine life.

Wander an eerie glow worm tunnel

Explore a haunted mental asylum

The Mayday Hills Lunatic Asylum in Beechworth, Victoria, sits amid eleven hectares of heritage gardens. Step inside and roll the dice, you’re beyond arms reach from any hospital or comforting retreat. The ghosts will choose to pounce or loiter so you’ve got to be ready for anything. Through Asylum Ghost Tours, you can take on paranormal investigations, history tours or even hire a cinema to spook out on all the flicks.

Leap face first off a building

Sounds stupid, huh? But no, leaping face first off a building is an activity you can undertake, by choice. It’s called rap jumping and it goes down in the heart of Melbourne. Embrace the action hero inside you and let it fly, once you’re over the ledge you can descend at your own pace. You’ll be seven-storeys high, so enjoy the view.

Fly through the sky above Ayers Rock

Everyone’s bucket list has sky diving on it and it’s hardly a surprise. Jumping from a plane thousands of feet in the sky is the closest you’ll get to flying and if there was ever a place to do it, it’s above Uluru. The marvelled natural behemoth lies beneath you as you wade through the clouds. The contrast of orange dirt to rock and sprouting green flora is a sight to behold.

Dog sled with Siberian Huskies

The Victorian Alps hold some of Australia’s best skiing opportunities. During winter the Great Dividing Range transforms from a hive of meandering tracks and hiking adventure to a white wonderland. Ride the slopes and once you’re done jump aboard the HMAS Siberia with some of the mountains hardest working pups.

Swim with crocodiles

Come face to face, jaw to jaw with a five-metre crocodile in Darwin’s Cage of Death. Watch agasp as the primeval creature is fed and squirm as it gets increasingly curious. You’ll have 15 minutes in the pool of peril so make the most of it but don’t take your eyes off it.
