Our favourite burger joint in the south, California Burgers, are always thinking up fun and new creations. Not long ago they blessed us with a burger in ode to Thanksgiving that remains my go-to order (The Malibu Burger features a smashed turkey meat patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and pink mayo). Now, I’m proud to share the newest addition to the menu, The Altman Burger, but you won’t catch it for long, this one’s so precious, it’ll only be available for a limited time. The burger’s in celebration of The Altman Brothers’ upcoming Australian tour (for those that are unaware, the brothers are luxury real estate agents who specialise in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles). The burger must be luxurious right? And that it is, made up of two smashed patties, two slices of American cheese, turkey bacon, pineapple, lettuce, tomato, a ring of raw onion, pickles and house-made pink mayo. Plus it all sits within a fresh brioche bun. Other delights I’d recommend are The Compton Burger with fresh spicy chicken breast, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion BBQ and hot sauce, and The Muscle Beach Burger which stacks four times high.
Moroccan Soup Bar is no news to Beat readers or patrons of the north. Not only have I mentioned them many, many times during my career as a columnist, but they’re constantly full of happy and satisfied regulars; laughing, closely sharing, and generally enjoying delicious food with loved ones. The way any mealtime really should be. So why not mention them time and time again? During my busiest of times, when I’m fretting over a deadline, running errands around town, or perhaps simply having too much fun at Edinburgh Gardens that I’ve somehow forgotten that humans need to eat, I’ll call upon Moroccan Soup Bar for a quick and scrumptious feed. Almost all of my orders follow the same path; a spicy, eggplant wrap. Although considering we’re on the topic of time, if you do find you have some, sit down and have The Banquet, which will send you somewhere close to heaven.
