Nestled underneath the Block Arcade, Basement Discs is a hidden underground gem that you should visit on Record Store Day 2022.

With shops opening back up and the CBD returning to a sense of normalcy, Basement Discs is back in full swing. Descending the stairs into the labyrinth of vinyls and CDs is an experience like no other – it’s an unmissable store for any record lover.

With shipments arriving regularly from the US and Europe, Basement Discs is bound to have what you’re looking for. Visit them on Record Store Day, which is April 23, an annual celebration of local vinyl music stores.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Vinyls are displayed between the bollards that hold up The Block Arcade, as vistiors are invited to spend their time exploring the eclectic mix of the latest CDs, DVDs and vinyls from around the world. The basement venue also features a small stage for live performances and openings, as well as a small section for vintage clothes.

If you’re heading into Basement Discs on Record Store Day, owner Suzanne Bennett has some recommendations. “Of recent newies that we have been able to get our hands on, would highly recommend The Teskey Brothers’ new Live at The Forum, Steve Earle’s newie Ghosts of West Virginia, Cowboy Junkies’ All That Reckoning, Tamikrest’ Tamotait, Pokey LaFarge’s Rock Bottom Rhapsody and Tami Neilson’s CHICKABOOM!

You can also visit the record store physically at 24 Block Place in the CBD. Or, if you want to pick up a record online, you can visit their website, or contact them over the phone (9654 1110) or via email (info@basementdiscs.com.au).
