Melbourne outfit Bananagun are bringing their long-awaited second album Why Is The Colour of the Sky? to Brunswick Ballroom this autumn.
The band’s return follows a tumultuous four-year period since their debut The True Story of Bananagun, which was released during the height of lockdown in 2020. Australia’s strict pandemic restrictions meant the group was “scattered,” with rehearsals requiring them to sneak past military checkpoints.
This period of upheaval has shaped their sophomore release, which departs from the sunshine-pop and afrobeat that defined their debut album.

Why Is The Colour of the Sky? sees the band muddying the waters with a heavy blend of incendiary jazz and freak-beat experimentation. While not a pessimistic work, it presents a braver, bolder and more mysterious incarnation of the band.
The new sound represents a significant evolution in Bananagun’s musical journey, maintaining their distinctive character while pushing into more experimental territory.
Tickets for the Brunswick Ballroom show are priced at $28.15 for general admission, offering fans great value for a night with one of Melbourne’s most exciting and innovative bands.
